Gimcrack aspirations for Mick Easterby's Hoofalong. Mick Easterby's Hoofalong is almost prepared for a come back to the racecourse once creating a most promising debut at the York Dante meeting.

Part-owned by golfer Lee Westwood and his manager Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler, the juvenile went off at 25-1 for a five-furlong novice event on the Knavesmire and looked inexperienced when slowly out of the stalls.

However, he created eyecatching progress through the sector and eventually finished second, overwhelmed solely a length, to the skillful Lastchancelucas.

Chandler said: "He's had the sniffles however he is returning along nicely and is a few week and a off from running in a very maiden somewhere.

"Hopefully he'll win and that we will look towards the Gimcrack Stakes."
