Irish racing's | Stars supporting 'Jog For Jockeys'. Many of Irish racing's biggest names are out supporting 'Jog for Jockeys' on Sunday, July 29.

The likes of Ruby Walsh, Tony McCoy, Andrew McNamara, Johnny Murtagh and Davy Russell are running 5km in aid of the Irish Jockeys Accident Fund, and that they are joined by actor Paddy Courtney and musician Mick Foster.

Events are held at 12pm at Limerick, Leopardstown and therefore the Curragh racecourses, with over 780 folks participating last year to lift €25,000.

Organiser Audrey O'Dwyer said: "We are delighted to be running the 'Jog for Jockeys' once more this year. Participation prices solely €25 and includes a goodie bag and T-shirt.

"Just like last year there'll be a good atmosphere on the 3 courses and that we extremely do need folks to require half - you'll walk or run it, it's extremely all concerning participation!"

Courtney said: "I met one in all my all-time racing heroes, Johnny Murtagh, in conjunction with bunch of gifted riders, young and not-so young at the Curragh, who all helped to form some noise.

"As a lifelong racing fanatic, i am delighted to be ready to facilitate by jogging a straightforward 5km, and you'll facilitate too."

Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Turf Club senior medical officer said: "What different sportsperson encompasses a minimum of 2 ambulances and a doctor travelling behind them as they participate? Our riders travel at 35-40 miles per hour on a 0.5 ton of horsepower with the chance of falling at anytime from a height of 3 metres.

"Last year saw 2 of our Flat jockeys suffer terribly serious injuries. Among our National Hunt jockeys we tend to recorded thirteen cases of concussion, thirty six fractures and multiple different injuries.

"Apart from the contributions to the Injured Jockeys Fund from house owners, trainers and jockeys etc, fundraisers like this are essential to take care of sufficient funds to support our jockeys when out injured and pay applicable medical expenses."
